Berhalter Out After Five and a Half Years
Gregg Berhalter has been fired as head coach of the United States men's national soccer team. The decision was made Wednesday, just nine days after the team's disappointing first-round exit from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Berhalter, 49, had been in charge of the team since December 2018. He led the US to the CONCACAF Nations League title in 2020 and the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2021. However, the team's failure to reach the knockout stage at the World Cup was seen as a major setback.
Berhalter's exit comes at a time of uncertainty for the US men's national team. The team is set to begin qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in June, and it is unclear who will lead the team going forward.
