Coyotes Beat Capitals, Extend Winning Streak

Schmaltz's Two Goals Power Coyotes to Historic Fifth Straight Win

Ingram Shuts Out Capitals with 26 Saves

March 2, 2024 - TEMPE, Ariz. - Nick Schmaltz scored twice, and Connor Ingram made 26 saves as the Arizona Coyotes extended their winning streak to five games with a 6-0 victory over the Washington Capitals on Thursday night. Schmaltz opened the scoring just 2:46 into the game, and added an empty-netter late in the third period to seal the win. Ingram stopped all 26 shots he faced, earning his second shutout of the season. The Coyotes have now won five straight games against previous Stanley Cup champions, a franchise record. "This is a big win for us," said Schmaltz. "We've been playing really well lately, and we're starting to get some confidence." The Capitals, who are now 0-3-2 on their five-game road trip, were held to just 26 shots on goal. "We didn't play well enough tonight," said Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin. "We didn't generate enough chances, and we didn't get enough pucks on the net." The Coyotes will face the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night, while the Capitals will return home to host the Boston Bruins on Monday night.
